The other little mermaid

Took around 4 hours to make, completely painted and edited in the iPad.
Had a bit of an artist block and so I started thinking about Disney princesses, when I was little, Ariel was my favorite, however, I thought to myself, if there could be another way of defining a mermaid, or hydra monster, or whatever aquatic mystic being other than the typical upper-half human, lower-half animal. So this idea was born. You can come up with your own story for why this little mermaid has tattered fins and slashed scales, how might sailors view this creature?
